YouTube is Rolling Out a Paid Subscription option for its Top Creators
According to recent reports, YouTube has recently improved its monetisation model in response to ‘adpocalypse’. Since the new ad policies were making it difficult for publishers to earn enough money YouTube has now began rolling out a “channel subscription” kind of paid subscription option especially for it's top creators.
Twitch and Patreon two biggest competitors of YouTube have already employed this model. In this model, publishers with 1,00,000 fans can charge $4.99 per month to access exclusive content. Publishers with approximately 10,000 followers can host live-streamed “premieres” and can also advertise merchandise below their videos.
With the increase in the number of complaints YouTube decided to update its existing advertising policies.
YouTube came with this new update after Facebook had launched its new Instagram TV (IGTV). Through the launch of IGTV, users can publish vertical videos up to 60 minutes long on Instagram. However, with the launch of IGTV YouTube might have to reconsider its existing plan.
Alex Brinnand, editor of YouTube magazine TenEighty, said that today creators are largely looking for direct-to-creator monetisation options as they can generate higher revenue who are passionate about watching their content.
