Truecaller has acquired the Indian payments app - Chillr
Sweden’s Truecaller which is today quite renowned in India among its users for helping them in identifying spammers has recently acquired chillr in order to build a strong payment and financial service in India. It earlier started of as a means through which users were able to find out the authenticity of their callers and report any spammers. But with its recent acquisition it seems to have shifted it focus to India. Though it is nowhere near Whatsapp in terms of the number of users but it still as around 150 million registered users in India and roughly 100million active users all over the world. With this acquisition chillr’s CEO will soon be the Vice President of Truecaller Pay and the entire team of chillr will be phased out. Joy’s main aim is to see Truecaller Pay among the top three payment apps in a span of the next two years. He is also planning to layer value-added services over its SMS capabilities. According to Crunchbase Truecaller has till date been able to raise somewhere roughly around $90 million from various investors. There were news that it has also raised capital from Swedish Investment firm Zenith.
