Loreal to add AR Feature to Facebook Ads
L’Oréal is reportedly going to test Augmented Reality Ads on Facebook to bank on the growing AR trend. This will allow the users to try on certain make up looks on their face before they actually buy the product.
The French beauty company will initially launch AR advertisements for its NYX, Urban Decay, Lancôme and Yves Saint Laurent brands. These ad experiences would be launched to other Facebook owned social media sites like Instagram after the initial roll out.
L’Oréal also has similar deals in place with some popular Chinese social networks. Although, at this time the company has not given much detail about the collaboration, it should be noted that social media has influenced L’Oréal sales in the past few years. In just 3 years, the company's e-commerce revenue from 5% to 9.5%. According to the company's officials, their websites see higher conversion rates when there is a facility available for virtually testing the beauty products.
Recently, companies like Sephora had also decided to launch AR ads on Facebook. This is an excellent example of how AR can be used to help consumers in online shopping. The users can easily click on these ads and try on the items on virtually to see how it would look on them before they make a buying decision. This will eliminate the inherent problem of not testing and 'feeling' out the product that many people face while shopping online. It is possible that other big clothing and beauty brands will also jump on the AR bandwagon to benefit from this ongoing trend.
