To see how much time you have spent on Facebookand Instagrameach day on an average, you can go to the Settings page and tap "Your Activity" for Instagramand "Your Time on Facebook"for Facebook. After this you can see your usage statistics of the time you have spent on these social media platforms using a particular time. It doesn't show any statistics if Facebook or Instagram are used through desktops.
You can also "Set Daily Reminders"and limit your time on Facebook or Instagram for each day. You'll get an alert when you cross this daily limit. If you're the kind of person that is tempted to open Facebook after a notification pops up, you can also "Mute Push Notifications"in "Notification Settings."
Facebook has done this in an effort to make the usage of their social media platformsintentional rather than a compulsive habit. They also want to address the concerns raised by their users regarding the deteriorating online habits of teens. It has developed these new tools with the help of mental health experts and academics.
Facebookhad also acknowledged the fact that browsing through Facebook News Feedisn't always good for mental health after several studies pointed it out. The users who comment or like on posts rather than just scroll are more likely to feel better about themselves.
In another effort to improve its News Feed ranking algorithm, it has decided to show users posts related to their personal contacts and less posts from businesses. Instagramalso recently introduced a feature that shows users if they have seen all posts from past two days so that they can quit scrolling.
