Instagram Runs itself to Trouble on Grounds of Misuse of Children’s Personal Data
Instagram is said to be under the scanner on grounds of exposing contact details of children. The Facebook-owned platform is having a hard time since Ireland’s Data Protection Commission has placed two privacy-related inquiries on the same.
The major reason behind DPC’s inquiry on Instagram is due to concerns related to how the platform deals with the content and information that is shared by children under the age of 18.
The contact details at risk include email addresses and phone numbers. The first inquiry charged will focus on how Facebook operates as a data controller. The second inquiry will include an investigation of Instagram’s profile and account settings.
If Instagram appears to be guilty, then the privacy regulators hold all the rights to fine the company with billions of dollars.
