Twitter recently Fired an Engineer after Intelligence Officials said he was a Spy
Twitter has fired an engineer after reports of him spying on the accounts of Saudi dissidents came into picture. Engineer Ali Alzabarah had joined Twitter in the year 2013 and has rose to an engineering post which gave him access to user details including phone numbers and even IP addresses.
Ali seemed to have become closer with Saudi intelligence operatives who somehow convinced him to snoop on several accounts. It was also claimed that Twitter had sent emails to the owners of "a dozen accounts" which were accessed by Alzabarah.
The accounts belonged to security and privacy researchers, surveillance specialists, policy academics and even journalists. Twitter however declined to comment on this issue. Alzabarah also remained unavailable for comment. He currently seems to have returned to Saudi Arabia where he now is working for the government.
