Facebook is facing an issue wherein it is not allowing users to opt out of a feature which allows people to look them up using their phone number or email address. It also includes users who just added their phone number for the purpose of setting up a two-factor authentication.
There were news regarding this which had made waves on social media. Facebook however claims that the settings are not new.
It has been said by Facebook over the years that adding of the phone number is only for security reasons. Users have the option to share their phone number with whoever they want for example “Everyone” or “Friends of Friends” or “Friends” which is found under the Privacy settings.
Last year, it was seen that Facebook had removed the ability to enter someone’s phone number and email address into the Facebook search. It has also confirmed that phone numbers can be used for ads personalization.
