Instagram to Display Drug Abuse Pop-Up with Support Information

Instagram will now display pop ups regarding drug abuse support information when someone searches for opioids. The main aim of introducing this feature is to help people who might misuse the platform to search for drugs find help and get off substance abuse.

It has recently introduced new tools to help users deal with drug abuse. The pop ups will include references to illegal drugs, opioids, and other frequently abused substances. It will basically prompt the reader with the message:-

"If you or someone you know is struggling with opioid or substance misuse, find ways to get free and confidential treatment referrals as well as information about substance abuse, prevention and recovery”

There are group of people on Instagram who search for opioids and drug related hashtags in order to search for support communities and help on the platform. However there are also some who misuse the same just to sell drugs.

The company is also seen to have developed support resources with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence and the partnership for Drug-free kids.
