Due to rising regulatory pressure, LinkedIn shuts down in China
As a part of a broader effort to maintain control over online activity, China looks to increase pressure on internet companies. Due to this, LinkedIn has announced that it will no longer operate its local version of the platform in China and will soon be shutting LinkedIn China in favor of a new regional job board app.
LinkedIn first launched a localized Chinese version, which was built in adherence with local restrictions in China, back in 2014. But now, due to rising pressure, especially on foreign providers, LinkedIn is forced to take a step back.
Given the ongoing challenges LinkedIn has faced concerning strict local rules around online speech, this announcement isn’t ample a surprise
In replacement of LinkedIn China, LinkedIn will be launching a new job board app in the region.
