Google Launches Two New Link Attributes
Google is evolving the nofollow link attribute and introducing additional attributes to help Google understand the nature of links. Along with the "nofollow" link attribute, now there are two more:
- “sponsored”: Identifies links on a site that were created as part of advertising, sponsorships or similar agreements.
- “ugc”: Identifies links that appear within user generated content, such as comments and forum posts.
It is important to understand link attributes since it can lead to avoidance of link scheme penalties.
As from today onwards, these links are said to be in action.
