Google's New Updated Document highlights the Impact of Redirecting URLs
Google has recently released an updated document, where it has highlighted how redirecting URLs can affect a site's appearance in search rankings. The new document covers around six different types of URL redirects and their impact on search results.
Gary IIIyes and Lizzi Harvey from Google have come together and added around eight pages of content to an existing help page on 301 redirects. The new guide provides information on each type of redirect, examples of how it looks like, and the significant impact on Google Search.
The following are the six types of redirects added to Google's help page :
- Permanent server-side redirects
- Temporary server-side redirects
- Instant meta refresh redirect
- Delayed meta refresh redirect
- JavaScript location redirects
- Crypto redirects
Google's new guide has covered a lot of information. Selecting the appropriate redirect will depend upon how long you wish the redirect to remain active and the page you want Google Search to reflect in search results.
