Snapchat Android Redesign Now Available for Users with Root Access
Snapchat is releasing the "Snapchat Alpha", a new Android version of the multi-media messaging app. This new version is more user friendly and has better performance than the regular app. The Snapchat Alpha is likely the result of the complaints by users regarding the poor performance of Snapchat on Android. However, this app is only available on devices with root access for now. The company plans to launch it for everyone in the coming few months.
Snapchat Alpha has a new, fast and smooth user interface with the addition of the Emoji brush. The emoji brush can be used to draw on the pictures with emojis. Besides this, the new version has some features of Instagram's format of stories displaying a search bar and a preview for the stories section in the app.
The messaging feature has also undergone many changes including removal of voice and video calling methods. The user can also move the bar in the middle and icons to the side, in the messages section of the app. Additionally, the main user interface has a black navigation bar instead of a transparent one, which makes it more visible to the users. The 'Settings' menu has been de-cluttered by the removal of several unnecessary options.
Although, the Snapchat Alpha is an up-gradation of the Android app, it still lacks primary features that iPhone users enjoy such as good quality pictures. The app still takes screenshots from the camera app rather than using the camera inside the app. It also lacks features like chats, Snapcodes and trophies. The app is also known to suffer from crashes. Snapchat has to improve these features in the coming versions of its Android app so that they can provide the same app experience to Android and iOS users.
