Snapchat is all set to partner with Amazon in order to allow its users to shop through smartphone cameras. With this update, users will be able to point their smartphone cameras at a pair of shoes, the bar-code on the bottom of a shampoo bottle, or any other object in the world.
The partnership will allow them to compete for social media-driven sales against rivals Instagram and Pinterest. When users of Snapchat scan an object or bar-code, a window will pop up which will show similar items.
Initially, only a small number of users will be able to access this feature as an initial trial run. It is estimated that about 78% of US internet users are said to be in the age group of 18 to 24 years.
