Here's how Twitter Ranks Tweets in Search Results
Twitter, Shadow Banning is when someone's content is not made available to anyone except the one who posted it and the creator is not aware about the same. It is a method of dealing with users who are considered problematic. However, Twitter has said it doesn't deal with problematic users through shadow banning. A user is allowed to see any tweets from accounts that they follow even if they they are based on certain political viewpoints or ideology.
Although, a user's feed has tweets displayed in reverse chronological order, Twitter has said that it uses an algorithm to rank search results to make them more relevant. It says that the tweets are ranked in search results to organise them based on individual users.
Top Ranking Factors that Twitter Considers:
- If a user has shown interest in another account their tweets would be ranked higher.
- Popular tweets are ranked higher because they have been considered to be interesting by many other users
- Tweets from accounts which seem illegitimate and are trying to manipulate or divide the conversation are ranked lower.
- These accounts are identified based on factors authenticity, actions of the users, and their interactions with others.
