YouTube introduces new Metadata for Educational videos in English language

YouTube is working on bringing new metadata for educational videos in the English language. It will be displayed in search results in the future.

The platform announced the update during YouTube’s weekly news roundup. Some of the fields that will be a part of the metadata include:

  • Type of video
  • Education Level 
  • Academic system
  • Exam, course, or standard
The new update is important for YouTube channels since, in the future, the metadata will be seen in YouTube’s search results.

It will help viewers decide whether the content meets their needs or not. There are a few other updates for YouTube creators as well:
  • Addition of custom thumbnails on mobile
  • Dedicated section for all creators Shorts videos
The new Shorts shelf on the desktop is now available to all creators who publish Shorts content.
