Confirmed: WhatsApp is going to start Showing Ads on Status Section

WhatsApp is all set to start showing ads on the status section. The Vice President of WhatsApp confirmed that Facebook will be monetising the messaging service by allowing businesses to run advertisements in the 'Status' section of the app.

The ads are said to be interlinked to the advertisers profile on WhatsApp. WhatsApp is also said to offer $250000 to five startups through the 'WhatsApp startup Challenge'. The advertisements are said to roll out early the next year. The functioning of the ads is yet not clear.

Since the time WhatsApp debuted, it has remained ad free. After, Facebook acquired WhatsApp things seemed to change. WhatsApp is said to be monetised through a metered-user model wherein users will be charged after a certain limit of free messages is exhausted.
